It is important to have an open conversation with your healthcare provider about your sexual orientation in order to receive the best possible care.

There is an increased risk of contracting HIV gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis, hepatitis in certain forms of sexual activity.

Learn ways to reduce your risk and stay healthy:

  • Encourage early detection. Take a stand. Know your status and that of your partner.
  • Is Truvada right for me? This medication was approved by the FDA in 2012 to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted HIV infection in those who are at high risk. 
It is not for everyone. You can discuss this option with your provider.
  • Importance of vaccinations - You can be protected against Hepatitis A and hepatitis B.

Remember:

  • There's no cure for HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, such as human papillomavirus (HPV) and genital herpes.
  • The best way to stay healthy and enjoy life is to protect yourself.
